I recorded a video for my sister on how I feed my dogs a Raw Meaty Bones (RMB) Diet. She was considering switching her boxers from Dry Kibble to RMB. Maybe it can be of some value to you for your pets.
Because parasites in Raw chicken are always a concern in RMB diets, there’s a bit of a learning curve to climb before being comfortable with the process. There’s always a cleanliness issue when dealing with raw chicken, but for the sake of brevity I’m going to give you the quick 101. (Scroll down for video)
-Sharpen your knife
-Clean prep area and utensils as you go.
-Clear out the body cavity of any bags with the livers and heart
-Rinse the chicken in a bowl of water, or slow running water from the faucet. Careful not to splash, especially since people often have a dish rack they store clean dishes in close to their sink.
-Dry the skin and body cavity of the chicken before butchering. This will reduce the risk of cross contamination, and make cleanup easier.
– Cut up the chicken
– Separate out the pieces for the family in one container, for the dogs in another.
– Take the dogs outside with their food and feed them in an area where they won’t be tracking any mess into the house.
Once you get your method down, it doesn’t take any time at all.
The point of the Video is to show how you can cut up a whole chicken quickly for both your family and dogs for one meal at dinner time. It is not meant to be a full nutritional guide for your pet.
